Best things I ate in Madrid

Is there a cure for post holiday depression?! IDK, but i think writing and reminiscing definitely helps. On this post, i’m sharing with you my top eats from my EURO SUMMERRRRRR in Madrid! I’m a food tourist so my entire itinerary was based around food. Shocker. I ate A LOT but below are my top things i would eat again and again.

Starting off strong with Michelin guide restaurant

Tresde

For me, the value for money here is insane! They have a menu style called “EPP” where you get 3 courses for 45 euros! They also throw in some snacks and bread. Did anyone say BARGAIN?!

Starting from left to right – I had a ricotta stuffed courgette, Turbot with Bok choi and Beurre blanc and a dreamy greek yoghurt and blackberry ice cream tart. All the food was fresh, perfectly portioned and plated so nicely. On this trip i had A LOT of seafood, but this turbot was one of my favourites. Not only was the food incredible, the team was really friendly too. It’s a perfect spot for all diners – solo, couples and groups!

One thing about tiktok recommendations, you never quite know if they’re going to hit or not. Along with a list of places to see, i had a list of things to eat and Gambas al ajillo was at the top! My introduction to Gambas al ajillo was many many years ago when i was in year 8 at an after school cooking class. Simple ingredients that marry to become a dish PACKED with so much flavour. My ideal would have been to eat this everyday!

You’d think my favourite sweet treat in Madrid was churros. Spoiler, it was NOT. It was this chocolate mousse meringue cake from…

La mejor torta de chocolate del mundo

I’ve never quite had a cake like this before. Light, full of chocolate, indulgent but not heavy. SLAPED. Will i be attempting to make it at home? Yes, Yes i will. This little chocolate cake store is not one you will find on many lists but i HIGHLY recommend!

Along with Gambas al ajillo, another thing on my food bucket list was tortilla! And not any tortilla but one that has been called the best in Madrid many times. You can find this at

Casa Dani

Based in Mercado de le Paz in the luxeeee neighbourhood of Salamanca. There’s lots of seating – at the bar which is perfect for solo diners or in the actual restaurant. The portion is VERY generous and is served with crusty bread – perfect for scooping or dipping.

I didn’t try any other tortilla but BOYYY was this good. LOADED with potatoes and sweet caramelised onions. If you’re new here you should know that i do not usually eat onions that i can see in food… Something about the texture. But in this tortilla i did not mind AT ALL (mainly because the onions were softened perfectly). If i could, i would also eat this everyday – prefferably for brunch x

To close this post off, 2 honourable mentions for sweet treats from the bakeries below

La duqesita and La mallorquina

They both have a WIDE selection of pastries and sweet treats.

La mallorquina is one of the oldest bakeries in Spain i believe. You can have treats to eat in or take away! There are many branches all across the city so grab a sweet treat anytime!

Those are my recommendations for Madrid! There’s lots to eat in the city (and see of course) but we’re all about food tourism over here!

Thank you for reading and see you on the next one!
